This Week in Room 8 (2-8 through 2-12)

  • LMC is tomorrow! Please turn in your child's library books.
  • Please make sure to send in your child's valentine box by Friday. We will be passing out valentines in the morning so please make sure to have your child address and sign each valentine. You can send in the valentines and box when your child is done.
ELA:
We are learning about leadership and how to identify characteristics of a strong leader.
  • We will be identifying these characteristics through reading The Lorax and Officer Buckle and Gloria.
  • We will compare and contrast the characters in the stories.
  • We will continue to work on subject-verb agreement in our writing.
  • We will continue to practice segmenting and blending sounds in words. Our class can hear the different single sounds in one syllable words. We are now working on segmenting the sounds we hear in blends. For example: blend would be broken down into b-l-e-n-d
  • We will continue to restate the question in our written responses.
  • Your child can practice reading skills on Read Theory, RAZ Kids, Reading Eggs, and other reading apps.
SCIENCE:
  • How do plants and animals take in air, food, and water?
  • We will continue to make observations on our Hermit Crabs.
MATH:
  • We will continue to work on problem solving strategies as we attack word problems. In our problem solving, we work on trying a wide-range of strategies, explaining our thinking, and showing our work. It is about the process, not the product!
  • We continue to work on fact fluency, especially subtraction through Xtra Math, Monster Math, IXL and other math apps.
  • Your child can work on the Tenmarks assignment posted for this week, work on the starred skills for IXL, and Base Ten for the app Front Row.
