This Week (so far) in Pictures

We started our day with a Padlet.
The challenge was to create as many true equations as possible.
Check out our results on Twitter @cacioppocrew

We learned more about our Leader of the Week!

We worked on adding information about our Non-Fiction Text Features.
The purpose of the ____ is to help the reader _____.

We constructed our own Function Machines to practice addition and help us
determine missing addends in addition problems.

In Book Club, we are working on recalling key details in fiction text.
Who are the characters? Where does the story take place? What is the problem?
What happens in the beginning, middle, and end? What is the solution?

Today, we practiced reading to our buddy, recalling key details with our partner, and
documenting our discoveries and answers in our google slide.
Make sure to check out your child's google slide on his/her iPad!

Today in Math, we got to practice and play some exciting math games.
Students picked their buddies and decided which games to play!

We added 2 cards together and determined who had the largest sum.
Jacks = 11  Queens = 12   Kings = 15   Aces = 20 or 1

Ask your child about the game "Break It!"

Check out your child's Kidblog for the Balloon Project where we added 3 numbers.

I forgot to get pictures of the other 2 centers! :)

Non-Fiction Text Features, Coding, and Passion Projects!

We went searching for non-fiction text features!
Students created a google slide as a way to showcase their work.
They took turns presenting their  power points to the class!

Hour of Code:
We spent an hour this morning learning about and practicing coding in our room.
We had two Deerfield High School students visit our room and help
answer questions along the way.

The students were excited to have special visitors!
We talked about how when we stretch our brain by working hard our brain gets smarter and stronger.
We also talked about how we learn from our mistakes.

We learned how to manipulate objects on the screen by giving the program a code of either symbols or words. We used the Kodables app and Angry Birds coding.

While 1st grade students were finishing up MAP testing,
our class learned more about Passion Projects!

Since we will be learning about animals, we took our learning out of the room and explored the animals on Pebble Go. Each student picked an animal of interest to investigate.
We worked on finding important information like the animal habitat.
We also worked on finding facts about the animal.
When we were done, we wrote about something that we were still curious
about for our animal of interest. This is our "I wonder..." statement.

We will be sharing our Passion Projects with the class next week!
