I had some expert photographers help me out with taking pictures of our
learning in the classroom today.
We listened to the story Officer Buckle and Gloria.
In our writing/blog prompt, students could write about how Officer Buckle and Gloria
demonstrated Habit 6 (Synergize) or how Officer Buckle and Gloria were good leaders.
The challenge was to write 5 sentences and to provide examples from the text.
We posted our response on Kidblog.
Here are some of the photos:
Coding!
I attended a workshop for Coding at Northwestern University last night.
I was so excited to come in today and work on the activities with my class.
We started by noticing how there are patterns around us. In our morning meeting, we see patterns in the shapes on our calendar, in the days of the week, months of the year. We noticed how some patterns grow and some patterns repeat. We call repeating patterns "looping."
We connected the looping pattern to the text.
We made observations that the words are looping and that the pattern is growing.
We brainstormed other books that having a looping pattern and discussed with a partner.
Then, we learned how to navigate a new coding app called Scratch Jr.
We created our own lines of code, but we had to follow some guidelines.
First, we needed to begin with the green flag.
Next, we needed to make sure we had a looping code.
Finally, we had to give our work a title!
It was fantastic watching the students create, collaborate, problem solve, and
persevere!
Maker Time!
We took our discoveries about looping with coding to create our very own
looping pattern with manipulatives.
Finally, we took out crayons and paper to draw our looping pattern that
we created with the manipulatives.
It was great to see how our class connected the looping pattern in the book Green Eggs and Ham, to the app "Scratch Jr.," to the maker time with manipulatives, to the illustrations.
Way to go, Cacioppo Crew!!!!
