Today in Pictures (11-30-15)

Ms. Abram's 1st Grade Class is providing the math tasks this week for the Twitter Challenge.
What math do you see in this picture?

During Math Rotations, students used their counting on strategy to add each roll.

We used a die with letters (A-F) and a die with numbers (1-6) to plot and solve a
doubles addition problem.

We used Tenmarks to review the Commutative and Associative Property for Addition.

We played a subtraction Connect Four game.
Students rolled 1 die (numbers 5-10) and 1 die (1-6).
After stating the subtraction equation and solving the problem,
students tried to get 4 in a row!

Please make sure to check out IXL on your child's iPad. I have marked some skills for your child to practice this week to reinforce adding doubles.

Special Someone Day and More!

We started our morning with the Global Math Twitter Task Challenge. #gmttc1
The students used the word "Thanksgiving" to solve mathematical problems.
How many vowels? How many consonants?
What is the fact family?
We were thrilled to answer Mrs. Comitor's challenges this week!

Special Someone Day!

We welcomed our family members to our classroom.
Students were eager to show the special visitors what we do here in 1st grade!

We had two 5th grade students visit our room to discuss Leader in Me!
We talked about how we use the 7 habits in school.

Our class synergized with Mrs. Comitor's class in blogging about
our Special Someone Day!
We worked on including a topic sentence, providing details of the morning,
using transition words, and ending with a closing sentence!
Check out your child's blogpost on Kidblog!

It is Friday! Time for our Class Meeting.
After lunch/recess each Friday, our class gathers to give positive feedback for great things happening
at school. The students take turn sharing a "put up" for another student in our class.
The students' faces light up during this time as we build each other up with kind words!

Our class has connected with another 1st grade class from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada!
We are learning about how our interests and classes are alike and different.

In Math, we practiced working together, problem solving, and adding 3 numbers together to play
this game! Students are learning strategies for combining numbers,
adding fluently, and writing equations.
